After Ben’s death Graham and Trish fought tirelessly to uncover the true state of the Nimrod fleet and to obtain an element of justice for Ben by bringing those people responsible for the fourteen deaths and the loss of XV230 to account.
Their son in Grahams words “was killed by incompetence, not by insurgents”, however the MoD and BAE Systems are a formidable force against an ordinary family and we do realise now that justice is very unlikely to prevail, even though the MoD have accepted responsibility. In an attempt to come to terms with everything that was happening to us at that time Trish began keeping a diary, she said she did not want such an horrific situation to eventually fade into normality. She recorded everything that happened to us on a daily basis for the first three months following Ben's death, and continued to record her feelings and our experiences as we struggled to live without Ben, at the same time attempting to obtain an element of justice for him.
This is her story, a mother’s story, written from a very unique viewpoint. The content of the book may surprise and distress some people but it is a personal account of a horrific experience. Hopefully when people have read the book they will feel some of the injustice we feel together with sadness for our son, Ben,
who was a very intelligent young man who put a smile on the face of everyone who knew him. |

In an unprecedented move, Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne, apologised to the families of the servicemen in the House of Commons.
Paying tribute to the servicemen who were killed, in what the Board of Inquiry called "an unsurvivable crash", he said their families should be very proud of their bravery.
"The Board of Inquiry established the most probable cause of the fire and subsequent loss of XV230, and in doing so identified failings for which the Ministry of Defence must take responsibility," he said.
"On behalf of the MoD and the Royal Air Force, I would like to apologise to the House of Commons, and most of all to those who lost their lives, and to their families. I am sorry."
